Councilmember Sereta Wilson

Councilmember Sereta Wilson is a 25 year
resident of Norman and a 5 year resident of Ward 5.  She graduated from the University of Oklahoma
with a M.A. in Liberal Arts Administrative Leadership.  She has spent 16 years in the
telecommunications field working for Cox Communications and was a member of the
board of Women in Cable and Telecommunications Oklahoma Chapter.  In 2007, she won the WICT rising leader award,
and received the June Travis Fellowship.  She left the telecommunications industry to
pursue a more entrepreneurial endeavor and was determined to create a business
where she could work and live in her community. In 2009, she opened Annie’s
Ruff House Doggy Daycare and Boarding Studio which has become the premier dog
boarding facility in the region.

 

Ward 5 consists
of mostly rural area and covers the largest land mass of all the wards in
Norman.  The Ward starts at approximately
36th Avenue East excluding a small section between Alameda and
Lindsey where the western boundary is 48th Avenue S.E. South of Lindsey Street
the western boundary is 24th Avenue East and south of Imhoff Road
the western boundary is Classen Boulevard. 
The eastern boundary continues east to the far side of Lake Thunderbird
and encompasses Little Axe with the east border being as far out as 180th
Avenue.  

 

Sereta is a
member of Norman Business Association, East Side Business Association, Norman
Chamber of Commerce, Little Axe Chamber of Commerce, and Sooner Rotary.  Sereta is the founding member and director of
Annie’s Rescue Foundation.  She serves on
the board of Lake Thunderbird Friends Association and the
Entrepreneurship Council with the Norman Economic Development Coalition.
 Sereta has raised two wonderful children
in this community; her daughter is serving in the United States Air Force
active duty and is stationed in Guam. Her son is finishing college with
aspirations of becoming a professional firefighter. She and husband, Robert
Wilson, own a small farm where they enjoy beekeeping, and organic gardening.


Councilmember Wilson serves on
Finance Committee and the Community Planning and Transportation Committee.  She also serves as Council’s representative to
the Norman Convention and Visitors’ Bureau.
