Reception to welcome Ritsumeikan exchange students

Mayor Lynne Miller and PASSPORTS, Norman’s Sister Cities and International Connection, will host a reception for students from Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan who are attending the University of Oklahoma though a special exchange program. The one hour reception is Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Multi-purpose room at city hall, 201 W. Gray Street.

Signs prohibiting trucks in Campus Corner installed this week

Signs restricting the movement of trucks (an excess of 6.5 feet in width) will be installed during the week of January 30. The signs will prohibit trucks in the Campus Corner area from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m.

The new restriction was requested by the Campus Corner Merchants Association and approved by City Council in December of 2016.

Fiber optic interconnect to be provided along Boyd Street between Berry and Classen

A new project will begin Monday on Boyd Street to provide fiber optic interconnect for the traffic signals along Boyd Street between Berry Road and Classen Boulevard. The project also replaces the existing traffic signal at the intersection of Boyd Street and University Boulevard, which is the oldest in Norman. It was installed in the 1950’s and is no longer structurally sound.

Stoney Brook Drive west of North Interstate Drive to Regal Run Drive to close Monday

Starting Monday at 9 a.m. until Feb. 7 at 5 p.m., Stoney Brook Drive just west of North Interstate Drive to Regal Run Drive will be closed for Phillips 66 Pipeline to complete the repair of a pipeline in the area.

The public walk adjacent to this location will also be closed.

The detour route will be Dove Crossing Drive.

Lindsey and Wylie Intersection Reopened, Work to Begin at Lindsey and McGee

The intersection of Lindsey Street and Wylie Road reopened to traffic Thursday. Beginning Monday, the north and south sides of the Lindsey Street and McGee Drive intersection will close for installation of a new sanitary sewer line under Lindsey and north on McGee Drive to Lancaster Circle.

24th Avenue NW between Rock Creek and Corporate Center Drive Reduced to One Lane in Each Direction

The 24th Avenue NW and Radius Way intersection improvement project began this week with construction on the west side of the intersection. Between Rock Creek Road and Corporate Center Drive, 24th Avenue NW is reduced to one lane in each direction. Southbound traffic is diverted to the east side of 24th Avenue NW.

Pickard Avenue to close during the day Wednesday and Thursday

Pickard Avenue, from Garver Street to Main Street, will close to through traffic Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to allow a contractor for AT&T to bore a communications line as part of planned upgrades to the communications system. Thursday during the same time, 9 a.m.

City to Host Educational Presentation about Stormwater Infrastructure

The City of Norman is hosting an educational presentation about stormwater infrastructure. The presentation, which is free and open to the public, is Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at city hall, 201 W. Gray.

The detour route will be Dove Crossing Drive.

North side of Lindsey and Wylie intersection to close Monday

The north leg of the Lindsey Street and Wylie Road intersection will close Monday for installation of a drainage box and inlets on the north side of the intersection. The temporary closure will be in place through the end of January.

Residents who live on or near Wylie Road will have access to their homes.

Franklin Road to Close between 24th Avenue NW and 12th Avenue NW

Franklin Road will close to through traffic between 24th Avenue NW and 12th Avenue NW beginning Monday for reconstruction of the bridge over Little River. The road is expected to reopen in July.

The detour is Tecumseh Road. Signs will be in place to direct motorists.

Sanitation Services to Maintain Schedule for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Holiday

The City of Norman sanitation services will maintain the regular schedule for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday Monday. Sanitation services include commercial and residential curbside waste collection, as well as recycling.

The City of Norman administrative offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.
