On Wednesday, January 13, 2010, the Mayor of the City of Norman, Cindy Rosenthal, and the Norman Human Rights Commission, hosted Norman’s first Interfaith Prayer Breakfast celebrating the day set aside in honor of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. George Henderson was invited to speak at this event and delivered the following remarks and also related several personal stories of interactions with Dr. King as well as with Malcolm X and other key civil rights leaders. In addition to Dr. King’s remarks, faith community leaders led the group in prayers for peace, for the less fortunate, for strengthening our faith and sense of social justice, and in silent meditation.
