Work Schedule Varies. Average 15 to 20 hours per week, Tuesday – Friday during summer camp sessions.
Responsible for driving bus to transport youths during summer camp sessions, following predetermined routes and time schedule. Only allows authorized riders on bus and picks up and discharges riders at authorized stops. Maintains proper discipline on the bus and insures that bus rules are followed to maintain safety of driver and passengers. Reports incidents of rule violations to supervisor in order to correct the problem. Maintains cleanliness of bus and encourages summer camp passengers to follow rules relative to food, litter, etc. Completes bus inspection report before each operation. Inspects bus fluid weekly. Insures at least one half tank of fuel in bus at all times. Notifies supervisor of routine preventive servicing and when fuel tank reaches one half full. Immediately reports any equipment or other mechanical problems to supervisor. Notifies supervisor or proper authority of all accidents and bus delays. Practices safe driving operations at all times. Obeys all traffic laws and observes all safety regulations. Performs related bus driving duties as required.
Works independently with access to supervisor for discussing problems and reporting progress of the job. Work is performed primarily inside vehicle with some exposure to extremes of temperature and noxious fumes.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be currently employed in the position of Bus Driver for the Norman Public Schools.
School bus regulations as listed in manual for school bus drivers provided by the State Board of Education. Safe driving operations, traffic laws and all safety regulations. City streets and city map. Basic data recording/record keeping.
Good oral communication. Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous to fellow employees, citizens and participants while performing duties.
License and/or Certification:
Valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with passenger endorsement and bus driver certificate. Must have satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Mental & Physical:
Ability to read and interpret routine written or printed materials such as safety policies, diagrams, maps or instruction material. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail while constantly being interrupted by passengers. Must be able to assist with passenger loading and unloading. Ability to lift and carry light (25 lb.) items occasionally. Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
Selected applicant must pass background investigation, physical examination and drug screen.
