Job Description
Duties: 
Collect samples including but not limited to: weekly water distribution samples for microbial testing, monthly and quarterly chemistry samples. Learn and understand the sample preservation needs for various parameters. Set-up and analyze samples from various sources for bacterial or chemical testing. Complete and file paperwork. Address citizens’ concerns and requests. Perform chemical testing of water samples and prepare chemical reagents. Provide back up for Water Treatment Lab Technician. Perform other laboratory duties as required.
Working Conditions: 
Works primarily in a laboratory environment; however, time is spent outside (approximately 25% to 50% of the time) exposed to temperature extremes, dirt, dust, noise, etc. while working in the treatment plant or collecting water samples.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience: 
Minimum of one year of college or vocational/technical school required. Completion of one course in microbiology is preferred.
Knowledge: 
General chemistry. Computer software applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
Skills: 
Use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with internal staff, the public, and other departmental staff in a courteous and friendly manner. Conducting field investigations involving collection of water samples, testing, and recording data.
License and/or Certification: 
Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record. Must obtain an Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Water Operator’s Certification, Class D within 6 months of employment. Class B Water Operator Laboratory License preferred.
Mental & Physical: 
Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with interruptions associated with answering phone or assisting the public with walk-in requests. Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (25-50 lb.) materials occasionally. Moderate mobility; duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing and walking; however, long periods of standing are required. Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
