Job Description
Serves as bailiff in the courtroom by assisting the judge and serving as liaison for the judge, prosecutor, officers, and witnesses while court is in session. Prepares the courtroom for each court session. Controls the flow of traffic in and out of the courtroom; maintains order and peace in the courtroom; assists Judge, Court Clerk, and City Attorney as needed. Records names of people entering the courtroom. Contacts the County Jail and the City of Norman Police Department in reference to city prisoners. Contacts police officers required for trial. Leads jurors into and out of the courtroom; ensures their privacy during deliberation process. Searches court dockets in order to prepare subpoenas for witnesses required for trials. Serves subpoenas; ensures that all witnesses are subpoenaed. Ensures arrest warrants are up-to-date; reconciles outstanding warrants with current court records; removes warrants older than six months. Plans, schedules, and assigns work; instructs and trains new employees in correct methods and procedures and safe operation of equipment; inspects and monitors work in progress to ensure timely completion of work. Performs other related work as required.
Working Conditions: 
Works in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, and dirt.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience: 
Graduation from college and currently attending law school.
Courtroom proceedings and practices. Legal terminology.
Planning, organizing, assigning, directing, reviewing and evaluating the work of staff. Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimum direction. Analyzing and resolving office administrative situations and problems. Analytical abilities are required to interpret data, recognize discrepancies contained in data, and correct or determine the cause of discrepancies. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff.
License and/or Certification: 
Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Mental & Physical: 
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to citizens requiring assistance. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lb.) 5-10% of work time. Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
Additional Information: 

Selected applicant must pass drug screen and background investigation.

15 hours a week maximum. Approximately 10 hours in the courtroom on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons and 5 hours serving processes.
