Mosquito spraying to begin in District Six

On Oct. 10, the City of Norman Parks and Recreation Department will begin mosquito spraying in the following areas:
District 6
Northern Boundary: Alameda St.
Southern boundary: Lindsey St.
Eastern boundary: 36th Ave East
Western boundary: Classen Blvd
Spraying will take place after 10 p.m.
Beginning in mid‐March each year, the City’s mosquito surveillance officer places light traps in 12 districts across Norman near locations known to provide mosquito habitat such as drainage channels and creeks. These traps attract night‐flying mosquitoes which fall into collection jars that are retrieved daily. The collection jar contents are examined to identify mosquito species and number of females. If 50 females are caught in any one trap three days in a row, spraying will begin in the identified district.
