Electronic products are made from valuable resources and materials, including metals, plastics, and glass, all of which require energy to mine and manufacture. In addition, electronic devices contain high enough levels of certain materials, such as lead, that can render them hazardous waste when disposed. Donating or recycling consumer electronics conserves our natural resources and avoids air, land, and water pollution, as well as reduces greenhouse gas emissions that are caused by mining for or manufacturing virgin materials.

The City of Norman has partnered with United Electronics Recycling (R2v3 certified to ensure proper handling of electronics and data) to host an e-waste event at Reaves Park, 2501 Jenkins Ave., on Star Wars Day, May 4, 2024, from 9 AM to 12 PM. For ease, safety, and efficiency, residents are asked to remain in their vehicles while recycling crew members collect all acceptable electronic goods. Those goods that cannot be accepted for recycling will be left in the vehicles.

Items that WILL be accepted for recycling at the event include: televisions, printers, copiers, scanners, FAX machines, laptops, tablets, ipods, mp3 players, audio/visual equipment, monitors, phones, modems, hard drives, VCR/DVD/CD players, keyboards and speakers. Essentially, anything with a cord!

For more information, call DoERS at 405-292-9731, or email environmentalservices@normanok.gov.

May the fourth bring you to our collection event!
