Heavy Equipment Operator - Water Reclamation

Salary: $23.12 - $34.58 per hour (Non-Exempt)
Shift: 6:00 am - 4:00 pm (Tuesday through Friday)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “A” (with air brakes & tanker endorsement) within six months or scheduled timeframe based on class schedules and satisfactory motor vehicle record. Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ) Wastewater Work Operators License Class “D” within six months

Knowledge of: Operation, service, maintenance, and repair of trucks and heavy equipment. Methods and techniques used in area of specialization. Policy, procedures and SOPs used in area of specialization. Tools, equipment, vehicles, materials, and procedures used in area of specialization. Occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations in operation of heavy equipment. Applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations concerning the operation of heavy equipment including work zone traffic control.

Skills: Operation and use of trucks, heavy equipment and tools used in area of specialization. Ability to lead a small group of employees independently in the field. Operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment. Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous of fellow employees and citizens while performing duties. Leadership skills necessary to supervise a small crew and act as crew chief in his/her absence.

Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance. Ability to understand written instructions and construction procedures. Ability to work independently and use initiative. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (25-50 lb.) supplies, materials, and debris frequently. Ability to lift and carry heavy (50-75 lb.) supplies, materials, and debris occasionally. Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions: Operates Front-end loader, tractors up to 200hp, mowers, skid steer, forklifts and other equipment to maintain at the Water Reclamation Facility. Operated and maintain dewatering and thickening bio-solids centrifuge or other types of dewatering equipment. Monitor SCADA systems associated with dewatering and thickening bio-solids equipment. Conduct preventive maintenance on dewatering equipment. Operate manure spreader, front-end loader, aeration equipment in the application of bio-solids to farmland. Able to operate backhoe or trackhoe for maintenance, repair and construction if need-ed. Operates semi-tractor trailer, and walking floor trailer to transport and dispose of bio-solids at land application site and landfill site. Places and secures tarps on trailers so debris is not blown onto roadways. Inspect and operate various wastewater treatment equipment including pumps, motors, treatment units and other types of equipment. Inspects equipment for safety hazards before use; performs preventative maintenance on equipment as needed; inspects defective equipment to determine cause of malfunction and possibility of repair. Works in a manner safe to the individual and other people; keeps work area clean and safe; follows safety rules and safe work practices; uses safety equipment as required. Performs related duties as re-quired.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent exposure of up to 80% of work time to dirt, dust, extremes of temperature, noise, and noxious weeds, fumes and odors. Exposed to hazards associated with equipment, machinery, upgraded terrain at construction sites, and moving vehicles on roadways. May be exposed to hazards of working at night associated with entering private property.

Utilities
