MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education and ExperiencePrefer four-year degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Physical Education, Social Work or related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses and Certifications: Must possess a valid state driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.  Must have CPR and First Aid Training. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) from NRPA or must obtain within 1 year of employment. Must Receive training in First-Aid, CPR, and other issues that need to be addressed. KnowledgeProficient in Microsoft programs including Word, Excel and Outlook.  Proficient in the use of the parks and recreation software. Concepts, programming and administration of recreation activities and programs for aging adults. Activities necessary to the effective functioning of a diverse program providing senior community services. Assisting with various recreational special events. SkillsDeveloping, planning, and implementing senior recreational programs and activities. Scheduling, organizing, and administering various special events. Oral and written communication. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively lead subordinates, resolve minor complaints, and deal with day to day occurrences. Mental and Physical AbilitiesAbility to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Ability to use resourcefulness and tact with public contacts. Ability to lift and carry light (up to 25 lb.) supplies, materials, and equipment frequently.  Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Additional Information: Selected applicant must pass background investigation and drug screen.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Essential Functions: Assists supervisor in coordination of planning, programming and promoting the recreation programming. Opens and closes center, inspects center for any maintenance problems and repairs and/or has repairs performed.  Plans, promotes, organizes, coordinates, schedules, and supervises various recreation programs and activities based on the needs and requests of the facility users and residents. Ensures equipment, materials, and supplies are available for scheduled activities; provides set up for activities; checks equipment in and out. Keeps supervisor aware of needed supplies and equipment.  Interprets and enforces departmental and center policies and safety rules and regulations.  Performs other related duties as required.  Communicates and works with individuals, community groups, and committees to stimulate interest and develop recreation program support, including fund-raising. Responds to questions and complaints from the public regarding recreational activities, programs, and facilities; answers questions or refers callers to appropriate agencies for assistance; investigates, documents, and resolves problems or complaints. Ensures the safety and maintenance of facility; prepares work orders for maintenance needed; makes recommendations regarding repairs as needed. Examples of Other Major Responsibilities:   Prepares reports, papers, and other documents appropriate to the division; maintains and updates records and manuals. Attends seminars, conferences, studies trends, written materials and maintains knowledge of current practices in the field of senior programming and wellness. Keeps supervisors aware of issues dealing with staff, maintenance issues and the public. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Recruit, hire, and train staff to fill the needs of the programs, and events. Oversee the day-to-day operation of the facility and help support the needs of the aquatics or other recreation divisions. Oversee all Leagues held in the gym. This includes Men’s and women’s Basketball, pickle ball and the YFAC League. Schedules rental of facility; sets up facility for rentals. Ensures equipment, materials, and supplies are available for scheduled activities; provides set up for activities; checks equipment in and out. Duties may involve the need to plan, organize, and oversee various special events, including festivals, concerts, parades, and community gatherings. Duties may involve the need to create and manage multimedia content to support special events and other Parks and Recreation programs. Performs other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Works in a recreation center environment; however, time is spent outside (approximately 10% to 25% of the time) exposed to temperature extremes, dirt, dust, noise, etc.
