Construction for the voter-approved 2-way Gray Street Conversion Project will begin on August 5, 2024. Construction will begin on the North side of Gray Street at Porter Avenue.
Over the course of one year, work will take place between University Boulevard and Porter Avenue. Work will be carried out by a contractor and administered through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Work will modify the roadway configuration from the current one-way westbound configuration, to two-way traffic both east and westbound. This will require new roadway striping, reconfiguration of angled parking along the street, and new signalization equipment at intersections as well as the BNSF railroad crossing. The project will also incorporate streetscape elements similar to those being implemented along Porter Avenue and Main Street.
Lane travel may be impacted during construction but the roadway should remain open. Written notice is being relayed to area property owners who may be intermittently impacted. Questions can be directed to Public Works at (405) 366-5453. Any relevant updates to this project will be posted to this webpage.

The project will cost $5,300,000 and will be funded through the City’s 2019 Transportation Bond Program, which includes $72 million in infrastructure and transit improvements. Norman voters approved the bond in 2019 with 66.3% of the vote. Access to businesses and adjacent properties is a topmost priority during construction. All efforts will be made to ensure properties can be accessed throughout the duration of this project. The City of Norman appreciates the patience and understanding of community members as improvements are carried out.
