Beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, January 9th, 2023, Alameda Street will be closed to through traffic between 36th and 48th Avenue East for the reconstruction of this mile segment of the roadway. Construction will begin on the west portion of the mile segment. Upon completion of the paving, work will begin on the east portion of the segment. Local traffic to residents, businesses and churches will be provided through the construction zone. Detour routes will be installed prior to the closure for the rest of the traveling public.
Silver Star Construction anticipates completing this segment of the project in May 2023.

HISTORY OF THE PROJECT
The City of Norman conducted a bid opening on December 16, 2021, for the Alameda Street Widening Project, located from Ridge Lake Boulevard to east of 48th Avenue East. The low bidder was Silver Star Construction, Inc. of Moore, Oklahoma in the amount of $3,616,910.70. City Council approved the award of this project on January 25, 2022. This project had a delayed start date to allow the private utility companies enough time to relocate their utilities in conflict with this project. Silver Star began work on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. This project will be constructed in two separate phases. The Urban Project Phase was from Ridge Lake Boulevard to east of 36th Avenue East is now substantially complete and is open to traffic. The Rural Project Phase is from east of 36th Avenue East to east of 48th Avenue East. The City of Norman is administering the construction of this project.
Proposed improvements for the Alameda Street Project include:
- Widening East Alameda Street from 2 lanes to 3 lanes between Ridge Lake Boulevard and 36th Avenue S.E.
- Add 10-foot shoulders to East Alameda Street between 36th Avenue S.E. and 48th Avenue S.E.
- Intersection improvements at East Alameda Street/36th Avenue S.E. and East Alameda Street/48th Avenue S.E.
- Continuous sidewalks on the south side of East Alameda Street to 36th Avenue S.E.
- Storm water improvements
