Community members are welcome to apply for the 2024 Citizens’ Academy program, coordinated through the Office of Communications and designed to familiarize participants with the roles, services and operations that comprise local government.

“We want to capitalize on collaborative opportunities with community members and give an in-depth look at where their tax dollars are going each day,” said Tiffany Vrska, Chief Communications Officer and Class Liaison for the City of Norman. “These types of programs create a productive space for City staff and residents to connect and share knowledge.”

The program is offered at no cost and will take place Monday evenings July 29 through October 21, 2024. It is set to include site visits to major City facilities, presentations from department heads, interactive events and more. Applications are available to those 18 and up that are residents or business owners in Norman, or are employed in Norman. Those interested in applying should visit Normanok.gov/city-norman-citizens-academy-2024 to review standards for admission and complete an application. Applications for the program will be open until July 3 or until filled; the academy will be limited to the first 25 participants that meet standards for admission.

“We continue to receive positive feedback on this program that has sparked further interest in civic engagement across our community,” Vrska said. “We are very much looking forward to meeting this year’s class.”
