PUBLISHED 5/9/22: Community members are welcome to apply for the 2022 Citizens Academy program, coordinated through the Office of Communications and designed to familiarize participants with the roles, services and operations that comprise local government.

“This educational program creates spaces for City staff and residents to truly connect and engage,” said Tiffany Vrska, Chief Communications Officer for the City of Norman. “These types of programs foster civic engagement, which strengthens our community. We want to capitalize on collaborative opportunities with citizens and we want to give an in-depth look at where their tax dollars are going each day.”

The program is offered at no cost and will take place each Monday evening July 11 through October 3, excluding Labor Day. It is set to include site visits to major City facilities, presentations from department heads, interaction with elected officials and more. Applications are available to those 18 and up that are residents or business owners in Norman, or employed full-time in Norman. Those interested in applying should visit https://www.normanok.gov/city-norman-citizens-academy-2022 to review standards for admission and complete an application. Applications for the program will close June 20 and contact will be made to notify participants of acceptance through July 1.

“We are looking forward to a new opportunity to meet members of the community and encourage everyone interested to apply,” Vrska said.

The academy will be limited to the first 25 participants that meet standards for admission.
