New volunteer opportunity coordinated through the Office of Diversity & Equity
In furthering the City of Norman’s mission of Building an Inclusive Community, the Office of Diversity & Equity will spearhead coordination of the Diversity Roundtable this summer – a first-year volunteer initiative set to bring diverse communities together for intentional relationship building.
“We appreciate the vision and leadership of Norman City Council, Human Rights Commission and City Management in supporting this incredible initiative for the community,” said Cinthya Allen, Chief Diversity & Equity Officer for the City of Norman. “It will bring a special group of residents together to gather insight, develop new activities, provide direct 2-way communication, and drive collaboration.”
Applications will be available April 25 through May 30 and can be accessed through the Diversity & Equity webpage at normanok.gov. Those interested in applying must be at least 18 years of age and must reside in Norman. Commitments of those selected will consist of, but not be limited to:
- Meeting six times a year, bi-monthly.
- Serving 1 to 2-year commitments.
- Openly discussing topics to help improve the City of Norman’s Diversity engagement and inclusion.
- Engaging across various civic engagement opportunities to learn and connect.
“The Diversity & Equity Office is committed to creating a community environment where individuals of all backgrounds can share information, ideas and collaborate,” Allen said.
The first official meeting is expected to take place in July 2022.
