City of Norman to take over recycling operations beginning August 1, 2024

The City of Norman will take over recycling services for City of Norman utility customers beginning August 1, 2024. To date, recycling pickup had been outsourced to third party contractors but this shift in operations equates to an overall cost-savings for the city while truly localizing services for residents.

On the customer’s end, there will be no changes to items that can be recycled in Norman, the cart that recycling goes into, or what day recycling is to be set out. Residents will now see City of Norman Sanitation workers collecting recycling in white trucks.

“Our goal will be to provide services in a dependable manner with a commitment that is unmatched,” said Brandon McLendon, Recycling Coordinator for the City of Norman.

McLendon, a seasoned public servant who recently transitioned to overseeing recycling services for Norman, hopes to work collaboratively with community members to increase recycling participation. Recycling services in Norman are offered by curbside pickup or center drop-off. Learn more at https://www.normanok.gov/residents-visitors/trash-recycling or call 405-329-1023.
