Expanding Content Accessibility with Closed Captioning

The City of Norman is proud to deliver on its continued commitment to accessibility by providing live closed captioning for its streamed public meetings.

The Norman Citizens ADA Advisory Committee and the City Manager’s Office have been focusing on ways to ensure information access is available to our deaf or hard of hearing residents. Approximately 15% of American adults (37.5 million) aged 18 and over report some trouble hearing.* The City of Norman seeks to be intentional to ensure accessibility is at the core of its programs and services. This positive stride also serves as an example of how the equity solutions provide additional benefits. In this case, the closed captioning option also helps those learning the English language by providing a hearing and reading opportunity to follow the discussions. The benefits to this new technology are overwhelmingly positive.

The live closed captioning will take place on the official City of Norman Vimeo channel. In addition, meetings will still be live streamed via YouTube and Facebook platforms. Those platforms will have closed captioning after 24 hours from the live broadcast. Please visit and bookmark the official City of Norman Vimeo channel at https://vimeo.com/cityofnormanok.

If you have any accessibility questions or concerns, please contact the City’s ADA Technician at 405-366-5424. The City will make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
