History of the Project
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is tasked by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to perform Bridge Safety Inspections for all publicly owned structures greater than 20 feet in length. Inspections are performed at least once every two years to identify any critical findings, document the bridge condition and make repair recommendations if necessary. These bridge maintenance projects are not related to the recent voter-approved Bridge Maintenance Bond Program. That program, which will begin in spring 2024, is much more extensive and involves full replacement or major rehabilitation of bridges. Instead, these bridge maintenance projects fall in the category of “routine or preventative maintenance.” These bridges are not unsafe for vehicular traffic, but certain maintenance is needed to keep the bridge in good condition and to prolong the life of the bridge. Some of the maintenance activities will include removal of debris in the stream channel, repair of guardrails, stream bank stabilization and pavement maintenance. This project involves various maintenance activities on bridges located throughout Norman. On 7/25/23 Norman City Council approved Contract K-2324-4 with Cimarron Construction Company to complete work on the above listed locations.
