The Norman Police Department responded to a report of a collision with injury in the area of N. Interstate Drive and Stoney Brook Drive at approximately 7:27 p.m. Saturday. Once on scene, officers located a cyclist who had been hit by a motor vehicle sustaining multiple injuries as a result of the collision. The cyclist was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The initial investigation indicates that the cyclist was traveling southbound on Interstate Drive in the middle of the traffic lane when he was hit from behind by a vehicle also traveling southbound. The cyclist did not have a light on his bicycle and was not wearing protective equipment. The driver of the vehicle was determined to have no signs of impairment.
The collision remains under investigation by the NPD Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team.
