The Norman Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance in the 1900 block of W. Boyd Street at approximately 8:27 a.m. on May 15. The disturbance was near Alcott Middle School. Out of an abundance of caution, NPD placed Alcott Middle School and nearby school Jackson Elementary on a secure perimeter.
Further investigation into the incident determined an Alcott Middle School staff member asked an individual not associated with the school to slow down due to erratic driving behavior around the school. The driver left the area, but returned shortly after. Upon return, the individual approached the staff member and directed threats toward the individual and the school and then left the area. The individual was no longer on scene when officers arrived. No one was injured during the course of the incident.
The secure perimeter at all schools has been lifted, but NPD will maintain an increased presence at the school throughout the week.
The incident remains under investigation.
