The Norman Police Department responded to a report of a critical injury collision on State Highway 9 just east of 120th Avenue SE at approximately 11:43 a.m. Monday (October 26). The preliminary investigation into the collision indicates that a Ford Mustang was traveling westbound on State Highway 9 when the vehicle lost traction on the slick roadway and crossed over into the eastbound lane of the traffic where it was struck by a Ford Flex traveling eastbound.
The driver of the Ford Mustang, later identified as 23-year-old Nate Roberts of Gore, Oklahoma, died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.
The driver of the Ford Flex, later identified as 39-year-old Ashley Payne of Norman, was transported by EMSSTAT to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
State Highway 9 was closed between 108th Avenue SE and 120th Avenue SE for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated. The collision remains under investigation by the NPD/OUPD Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team.
