NPD Arrests One in connection with Shooting in the area of 24th Avenue SE and Lindsey

The Norman Police Department (NPD) responded to a report of a shooting in the 1600 block of 24th Avenue SE at approximately 7:27 p.m. Tuesday. Once on scene, officers located a 15-year-old female with a gunshot wound.

The 15-year-old female was transported to an area hospital where she remains hospitalized. Her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The initial investigation indicates that the suspect, later identified as a 15-year-old male, contacted the victim in an area behind the elementary school. The two became engaged in an altercation before the suspect presented a firearm and shot the victim. The suspect then ran from the area.

Officers located the suspect at a residence in the 800 block of Lexington Street. He was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Couch Juvenile Detention Center on a complaint of Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon.

The incident remains an active investigation by the NPD Criminal Investigations Division.

While the incident occurred in the area behind the elementary school, no school staff or students were involved or present during the incident.
