The Norman Police Department is set to hold its Know Your Limits educational project this weekend. This project allows officers to have positive contact with bar goers on Campus Corner, better educating them on the legal blood alcohol content (BAC) limit for operating a motor vehicle and how little alcohol it takes to get a BAC of .08 or more.
Volunteer participants are asked what they believe their BAC is currently, and if they’d feel safe driving a car. They then blow into a breathalyzer in front of their friends. Participants, even those with a BAC in excess of .08, are not arrested for being drunk in public. Instead, they are provided education on alcohol consumption, safety, and reducing impaired driving.
NPD has been holding Know Your Limits projects since 2015. During these projects, officers typically make contact with over 200 patrons during a four hour period.
