The Norman Police Department will hold its next Coffee with a Cop on Wednesday, September 30 via Facebook Live. The virtual event is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. All community members are invited to join the virtual discussion, and the event is kid-friendly.
The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop allows community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Norman’s neighborhoods, breaking down barriers and providing an opportunity for a relaxed interaction.
The monthly event is held on different days of the week and at different times of day each month to ensure our residents have equal opportunity to come together with their local police officers to discuss community issues and build relationships in an informal, neutral space. Due to concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19, the event will held virtually until the department’s in-person events resume.
