City of Norman welcomes Shannon Stevenson as Assistant City Manager

The City of Norman has welcomed Shannon Stevenson as its first assistant city manager this week, a government planning professional who brings more than two decades of experience to her new position.

I am extremely excited to learn more about what is important to residents, businesses and the overall community as I begin my tenure at the City of Norman,” Stevenson said. “I look forward to addressing needs and issues through collaborations, partnerships and innovative solutions.”

Stevenson is a University of Oklahoma graduate and previously served for the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), specializing in transportation planning and operations. She was responsible for securing millions of dollars in federal funding for NCTCOG projects. Stevenson also worked for the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms at the University of Oklahoma, managing a variety of outreach programs and serving as an airline liaison.

I fell in love with Norman when I first attended the University of Oklahoma,” Stevenson said. “After graduation, I kept close ties with the incredible people I met while in college and always knew that I would wind up back in Norman at some point. When the assistant city manager opportunity presented itself, I knew this was my time to make the move back to my adopted home.”

Among other tasks, as assistant city manager Stevenson will serve as the city manager’s liaison to committees, boards and commissions. She will conduct organizational analysis, prepare reports, policies and procedures, and coordinate a wide array of special projects and city initiatives.

“Shannon is already a wonderful addition to our team,” said City Manager Darrel Pyle. “Her experience, skills and talent will drive forward community partnerships on behalf of the City of Norman and greatly benefit our long-term strategic planning efforts. We will continue building upon our mission of working together to deliver exceptional service!”
