The Norman Parks and Recreation is proud to announce the opening of its newest playground at Cherry Creek Park, 530 Stone Well Drive, made possible through the Norman Forward quality of life initiative passed in 2015.
The dedication ceremony for the new playground and other park improvements will take place at 5:30 p.m. May 3, and will feature remarks from city officials and local families who have eagerly awaited the opening of this new community space. The ceremony will be followed by a fun-filled evening of play and celebration for all attendees.
The new playground at Cherry Creek Park includes synthetic turf safety surface and a large shade canopy, and was designed to encourage children of all ages and abilities to play and interact with one another in a safe and inclusive environment. The project also includes new park furniture and a native plant landscape area.
"We are thrilled to unveil this new playground to our community, knowing it will create memories for years to come," said Jason Olsen, Director of Parks and Recreation. "This project is a testament to what we can accomplish when we come together to invest in our neighborhood parks and make our city a better place for everyone."
The Norman Forward initiative has already led to the creation of several new facilities and parks throughout Norman, and the Cherry Creek Park renovation project is another example of the initiative’s success. The City of Norman is committed to continuing this work and increasing the quality of life for all Normanites.
