SPIDR Tech Text Communication Tool

Norman residents, businesses, and visitors will receive communication via text message on their emergency and non-emergency calls for police service starting July 23, 2024.

NPD is the first agency in Oklahoma to initiate SPIDR Tech, a Versaterm Public Safety Company product that will send automated text messages to people who have called 911 or the non-emergency phone number and requested service from NPD.

The new customer service tool will initiate an automated message with the primary caller via text acknowledging receipt of the request for service. NPD officers will respond and provide assistance following traditional protocols.

The communication process will continue through the life cycle of the incident by providing the caller with notifications of any relevant response delays, the associated incident number, any incident or investigation status changes, information on how to request a report, if an arrest is made, and valuable information on victim services and rights. Upon closure of the incident or case, the caller will be prompted to complete a short survey regarding their interaction with NPD.

NPD’s new text notification:

  • Will only be sent to the primary caller who placed the request for NPD services by calling 911 or 405-321-1444
  • Will NOT send texts about in-progress calls and situations where a text message may pose safety concerns for individuals involved
  • Can be accessed in Spanish by using the link provided in the text
  • Will be delivered from the phone number 405-963-3713
  • Cannot be used to send text communications to dispatchers
  • Can be stopped by replying to the text with “STOP”

Individuals seeking police services should call 911 for life-threatening emergencies and the non-emergency line, 405-321-1444, for any other requests for NPD response. In any situation where individuals cannot call 911, the public can also text 911 to communicate with a dispatcher.
