Mission:
Environmental Services mission is to help protect human health, the environment, and the publicly owned treatment works; to help ensure City compliance with its Oklahoma Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (OPDES) Permit; to be proactive in waste reduction as well as assist citizens, businesses, and the city government in preventing pollution. Environmental Service acts as the Utilities Department representative on environmental issues.
Description:
The Environmental Services Division's primary responsibility is to provide support to the the other Utility Divisions (Administration & Engineering, Line Maintenance, Sanitation, Water Reclamation and Water Treatment) by monitoring and controlling pollutants from businesses that could cause harm to employees, citizens, environment and City property and by helping them maintain compliance with environmental permits and requirements. This is accomplished through programs such as the Industrial Pretreatment Program, the Fats, Oil and Grease Program and the household hazardous waste collection facility. This division is the liaison with the Environmental Control Advisory Board which is a board responsible for education. In addition, this division is responsible for planning the Earth Day Festival, Earth Month as well as the Green Norman website

- April 5-6, 2024 - Rain Barrel Pick-up Event - Pick up your pre-purchased rain barrel or composter at the Lindsey Yard (668 E. Lindsey) - April 5, 2024, from 4 pm to 6 pm, or April 6, 2024, from 9 am to 1 pm.
- April 11-12, 2024 - Artful Inlets - several locations: Main Street (repair/renovation); Vineyard Park (3111 Woodcrest Creek Dr.); Sequoyah Trail Park (410 Sequoyah Trail); Chisolm's Cattle Trail Park (2515 Wyandotte Way) - Rain Dates are April 25 and 26, 2024.
