Line Maintenance Water Meters

The City of Norman has over 40,900 water meters in service. The most common residential water meter is the 3/4 x 5/8 positive displacement meter. This unit provides approximately 20 to 25 gallons of water per minute.

Volume of water is measured by a rotating chamber. Positive displacement water meters will often under-register when excessively worn.  Under-registering is a condition where the meter reading indicates less water than has actually passed through the meter.
